"Monoprint I" (Edition of 120), Peter Schmidt, collage, 43" x 29", 1969
For purposes of identification and cataloging they will be enumerated.
(Collection of Simon Hilton)
.
From the Pamphlet that accompanied the exhibiton "Autobiographical Monoprints" at Lisson Gallery in 1970:
.
ANALYTICAL INTRODUCTION by Jasia Reichardt
"What title can one give120 pictures of uniform size which are printed and collaged and which incorporate the tangible residue of one's life in the form of photographs, pages of books read, possessed and made, drawings and early works, letters and other mementos belonging to 35 years of experience? Peter Schmidt has called these works for want of a better word or phrase that would evoke more readily what they really are, Monoprints. The Monoprints were made between July and November 1969."
.
The pamphlet from the exhibition can be seen here, at PeterSchmidtWeb: http://www.peterschmidtweb.com/monoprints.html
.
Special thanks to Simon Hilton for photographing these works from his vast collection of Peter's work, and for sharing them with PeterSchmidtWeb. Simon was spotted with one of the Monoprints at an art fair in England a few months ago by our man in London, Rory Walsh, who set me after him in an effort to enlighten and expand our catalogue.
