"Waterfall", Peter Schmidt, watercolor painting, 1975-80
(Collection of the Schmidt Family)
.
We've had a photo of this painting in the collection for some time, and recently were sent a new image in support of our quest for a New York exhibition for Peter, by his family. This is a clear example of how Peter's sensitivity and craft had developed through his work in the watercolor medium. Peter did many paintings of both water and rocks, and seems to have hit upon a perfect moment with this work. Permanence in rock, fluidity in water. A superlative work...

Peter Schmidt Web Updated...

.
.
.
Peter Schmidt Web has undergone a major update with help of Maria Kiernan, the web designer. We have divided the section "His Work", into four galleries:
1. Early Work (before 1970)
http://www.PeterSchmidtWeb.com/Early1.html
2. Later Work (after 1970)
http://www.PeterSchmidtWeb.com/Later1.html
3. Taking Tiger Mountain (by Strategy)
http://www.PeterSchmidtWeb.com/TakingTigerMountain.html
4. Before and After Science
http://www.PeterSchmidtWeb.com/BeforeAndAfterScience.html
.
Added is almost one hundred new items. New images of works that have been catalogued already or have been posted previously in this blog. Images recently provided by the Schmidt Family in support of our application for an exhibition at the Jewish Museum of New York. Several images provided by old friends and students. There is a letter from Peter to Brian Eno donated by Russell Mills, a magazine advertisment for his gallery, a portrait drawn during Peter's service in the military from 1950, and many other noteworthy items. Many thanks for the support of the Schmidt Family, Peter's friends, associates, students, admirers of his work, and Maria for her hard work and diligence. There are still many voids to be filled. Some of the images presented are not of the best quality, as we are still casting the net wide. Sometimes this endeavor is akin to an archeaological dig, finding shards of pottery and creating a history from them. Please take a moment to sign the guestbook, and feel free to contact me with additional content, your comments and/or suggestions at: PeterSchmidtWeb@aol.com or info@PeterSchmidtWeb.com.

An Exhibition Opportunity for Peter Schmidt...

.
.
.
Unknown Title, Peter Schmidt, watercolor painting, 1970-75
(from the Schmidt Family collection)
.
With the support of the Schmidt Family, I have been working towards an exhibition opportunity for Peter's work here in New York City. Several galleries, and now a museum have expressed interest. After a successful initial interview, The Jewish Museum of New York has invited me back for a second meeting with their curatorial board. In support of this endeavor, Peter's family has sent photos of works not yet documented at http://www.peterschmidtweb.com/ to bolster the portfolio. Today, and over the next few weeks I will post some of these works to the blog, and will update the website catalogue within a month.
.
Among these new photos are better images of works previously posted here at this blog: "October Trees" posted March 3, "Wandering the Desert", and "Rain in Watford" posted March 4.
.
Many thanks to the Schmidt Family for their trust and encouragement in this and all efforts to cement his legacy.
